Please notice that you have to load the SRND kernel module before you can
start KSrnd. You can do this by typing (as root):
% modprobe srnd
If you use the kernel daemon as mentioned in the SRND documentation, you
don't have to load the module by hand.
The main window of KSrnd contains the menu bar and some elements to control
the main functions of the miroMEDIA Surround board.
- Mode
Here you can select the active Surround mode:
- Dolby Pro Logic
- By enabling this option, you can enjoy the Dolby Pro Logic
Surround sound.
- 3D-Phonic
- Enable this option, if you only connected two speakers to your
miroMEDIA Surround board. This option emulates a Surround field
in accordance with the JVC standard.
- Through Stereo
- This option leaves the sound unchanged.
- Noise Generator
- Enables the board's internal noise generator.
- Master Volume
With this slider you can change the master volume.
- Bypass
Here you can enable the Surround board's bypass function. The sound is
looped through the board and will not be changed.
The window with the preferences can be opened with the menu
Options|Preferences .
- SRND Device
Here you can specify the special file KSrnd uses to communicate with the
miroMEDIA Surround driver. It defaults to /dev/srnd . You have
to restart KSrnd to make a change of this option take effect.
- Mixer Command
Here you can specify the command that is invoked when you select the menu
item Options|Mixer .
- Allow Docking
Here you can allow KSrnd to dock itself to KPanel if you use the KWM
window manager. In this case KSrnd appears as a small icon on KPanel. You can
click with the left mouse button on it to hide or show the main window of KSrnd.
With the right mouse button you get a popup-menu with KSrnd's main functions.
- Start Docked
If you also check "Start Docked" the main window of KSrnd will
be hidden when started. You have to restart KSrnd to make a change of this two
options take effect.
- Show Tooltips
Here you can enable the Tooltips in KSrnd's dialogs.
- Save Main Settings on Exit
If you choose this the settings in KSrnd's main window will be saved when
you exit KSrnd. They are restored the next time you start KSrnd.
The window with the settings of the Surround modes can be opened with the
menu Options|Mode Settings . Changes of the mode currently
selected in the main window can directly be heared.
- Speaker
Here you can select you speaker arrangement:
- Normal
- If you use a small center speaker which does not reproduce low
frequencies optimally and which especially has been designed to
output the dialogs, select this mode.
- Wide
- If the size, the performance and the frequency range of the center
speaker matches the parameters of the left and right speakers, this
mode should be selected.
- Phantom
- Use this mode if no center speaker is attached.
- Dolby 3 Stereo
- This mode is suited best if you connected two frontal speakers and
one center speaker. This mode also improves the sound of signals which
have not been encoded with the Surround technology.
- Left/Right
With this slider you can adjust the volume of the left and right channel.
- Center
With this slider you can adjust the volume of the center channel. This
slider is not available with the "Phantom" speaker arrangement.
- Surround
With this slider you can adjust the volume of the Surround channel. This
slider is not available with the "Dolby 3 Stereo" speaker
arrangement.
- Optimize
With this button you can adjust the volumes to their maximum level
without changing the proportions.
- Delay
With this slider you can adjust the delay between the front channels and
the Surround channel. The value may range from 15 to 30 milliseconds.
- Effect
Here you can select a sound effect:
- Standard
- This setting offers a spatial sound effect which does not emulate echo
effects in closed rooms so that a wide variety of sources provide an
excellent sound.
- Music/Sports
- This sound is optimally adapted to music and sports programs.
- Theater
- This offers a room effect which has been especially designed for speech
and noise reproduction.
- Strong
- This setting offers a strong spatial sound effect which does not
emulate echo effects in closed rooms.
- Strong Theater 1
- This offers a strong room effect which has been especially designed for
speech and noise reproduction.
- Strong Theater 2
- This offers another strong room effect which has been especially
designed for speech and noise reproduction.
- Effect Level
With this slider you can adjust the extent to which the selected sound
effect is applied.
- Mode
Here you can select the mode of the board's internal noise generator:
- Off
- No noise is generated.
- Left Channel
- Noise on the left channel is generated.
- Center Channel
- Noise on the center channel is generated.
- Right Channel
- Noise on the right channel is generated.
- Surround Channel
- Noise on the Surround channel is generated.
- Noise Level
With this slider you can adjust the level of the generated noise.
